My client, a global provider of substantial logistics space is currently looking to appoint a Tax Compliance Manager to be based in London at group HQ.
This individual will have responsibility for all tax matters for the UK Group and its overseas operations ? this will include tax compliance, tax advisory and tax provisioning.
The Role
The Tax Manager will report to the UK CEO and, in short, the role will involve Tax compliance, VAT, PAYE and employee taxes and Tax advisory.
In detail:
Tax compliance
? Preparation of the year end tax accounting numbers for both the individual UK entities and also the consolidated worldwide tax position for the UK group. This would include:
Agreeing the timetable of the work
Preparing tax data collection packs to collect the data from Group?s overseas offices/advisers
Collating the information together and preparing the consolidated current tax and deferred tax numbers and notes to the statutory accounts
Making local GAAP to IFRS adjustments as required
Completion of the Parent Group?s Tax pack
Dealing with audit queries
? Preparation of the individual tax notes to be included in the UK statutory accounts
? Preparation and submission of the UK corporate tax returns. This would include:
Collecting the required tax information and preparing the tax computations in Alphatax software
Ensuring that any required adjustments such as transfer pricing, CFC and debt cap adjustments are made in the tax computation and returns
Ensuring all relevant claims and elections are made in the tax computation and returns (eg capital allowances, losses, R&D)
For the year ended 31 December 2009 onwards dealing with the groups obligation to file on-line in iXBRL format
? Dealing with any HMRC enquiries or correspondence and proactively building the relationship with HMRC
? Calculating and arranging payment, on a timely basis, of any quarterly corporate tax payments

? Minimising the risk of penalties and HMRC interventions across all taxes
? Manage professional adviser relations in relation to tax compliance matters
VAT & PAYE
? Oversight of the VAT and PAYE position of the group (it is usual that the VAT is prepared by finance and payroll by a payroll provider)
? Co-ordination of any HM Revenue and Customs enquiries/visits in relation the above
? Monitor compliance with tax rules relating to inbound and outbound secondees and other people working cross border, and obtain necessary advice from external advisors
Tax Advisory
Especially given the number of tax jurisdictions in which the Group operates, external tax advice will be required to support the Tax Manager in this area of his role.
? Be the internal contact person for queries from the business in relation to direct taxes (corporate taxes and income taxes), VAT, PAYE, Construction Industry Scheme and other tax issues that may arise. Obtain the necessary professional advice where required to manage the risk or where there are tax planning opportunities
? Have oversight of on-going maintenance of the group?s tax structure working with the relevant parts of the business, e.g. company secretarial, legal, accounting, treasury, including the following key areas:
o Tax residency ? ensuring companies are tax resident where intended (i.e. generally in the country of incorporation)
o Financing structures ? monitor financing structures for tax efficiency that is, tax deductibility of interest expenses on internal and external debt and withholding taxes on dividends, interest and management fees
o Transfer pricing policy and documentation ? Maintain contemporaneous documentation for intra group transactions, e.g. loan agreements, service agreements
o Manage and monitor compliance of transfer taxes, e.g. payments and filings
? Work with the deal team at the early stages to assess the tax implications and tax costs of proposed projects / transactions, including review of tax assumptions in models
? Proactively consider ways to make the group as efficient as possible across all taxes
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will:
? Hold a professional qualification ? ATII, ACA, or ACA

? MUST have UK tax experience
? Currently be working in an in house tax role or in one of the Big 4 firms
? Possess real estate corporate tax experience and international tax exposure
